About Me

Welcome to my website

My name is Jack Aylward Williams and I am a freelance photographer based in Lancaster.

I have always had an interest in photography , but the poor quality and limited controls of the point and shoot cameras that I used as a kid means that I’ve only got a handful of good images to show from before I upgraded to an SLR when I was 17.

The quality of my images has improved greatly since then and I have recently been commended in several competitions including The British Wildlife Photography Awards and The Amateur Photographer Magazine’s Photographer Of The Year contest.

These achievements spurred me on to publish my work in a more meaningful place than my Instagram feed, and henceforth, I created this website, combining both a photo blog to display my most recent shots and document the activities that came along with them, and a stock image library to make my best shots available for purchase in order to help fund my photographic ambitions.

I like to think of myself as a “platypus artist”, a phrase which may require a little elaboration

My dad teaches fine art and every year during induction week he asks his students 2 questions. “what does the koala bear eat?” and “what does the platypus eat?” The koala bear of course eats nothing but eucalyptus leaves whilst the platypus eats virtually anything it can find. Dad then explains that when it comes to art, the platypus (ie , the pluralist) has a lot more success than the koala bear (ie, the specialist.)

True to this analogy, I shoot photos in many different genres including wildlife, landscapes, architecture, and candid portraiture.

I wouldn’t say I have a favourite genre when it comes to the pictures themselves, but my favourite subject by far is my dog , Lolly Mabel.

When I first decided to start a photo blog, I knew that I would be talking about Lolly a lot, so I created a separate blog for her .
